NEW STUDENT APPLICATION AND ADMISSION PROCEDURES

If you wish to apply for enrolment for your child for Preschool, Kindergarten or Grades 1 to 9, for the current school year or a future year, the first step in the process is to submit an Application for Admission.

APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION FORM

Complete and return an Application for Admission Form and any requested reports by mail, dropped off to the school office, or by email info@calgarywaldorf.org. The $50 application fee is payable by credit card by phoning the school office, by cash or cheque.

WHEN TO SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION

Applications for Admission are accepted throughout the year. There is no final deadline.

Applications can be made for immediate or mid-year enrolment, for the upcoming school year, or for a future year.

HOW WE PROCESS APPLICATIONS FOR ADMISSION

Immediate/Mid-year Applications: If the Class you are interested in has available places, your application will be passed on to the class teacher for review. A review may consist of the following: phone conversation, interview with parent(s) and student, and perhaps the student’s visit to the class for a day or more. When reviewing applications the teacher will consider such things as: age, gender, academic strengths or weaknesses, and social and emotional maturity of the student. The teacher considers not only the applicant but also the current students of the class. The goal when selecting students for a class is to ensure that we are able to provide an ideal learning environment for both the applicant and the class.

If the Class you are interested in is full, we will hold your application on file in the office either: until a place becomes available during the school year or until we begin the process (detailed below) for reviewing applications for the following school year.

JANUARY – RECONFIRMATION OF ALL APPLICATIONS ON FILE

All applicants who are on the wait-list for the current school year or who have applied prior to September 1st for the following year or a future year will be sent a reconfirmation letter in January. Reconfirmation allows the office to confirm each applicant’s intentions for the upcoming or future school years. There are no additional fees required in order to reconfirm your application.

FEBRUARY – REVIEW OF NEW STUDENT APPLICATIONS BEGINS

Teachers will begin the review of new student applications for Grade School (Grades 1 to 9). Teachers will schedule interviews with students and their families and then offer a place, if appropriate, in their class for the following school year according to available spaces.

New Preschool and Kindergarten applications will be considered in date-received order, according to available places within each age range. Teachers will begin to schedule meetings with new students and their families, depending on the availability in each program and then, if appropriate, offer placement. This process will continue into the month of March or until the program is filled.

MARCH

March 1st, returning currently enrolled students and their newly registered siblings confirm enrolment for the upcoming year with a tuition deposit. This allows us to determine if there will be additional available places in the upcoming year’s classes that can now be offered to new applicants. By the end of March we hope to be able to confirm the status (accepted or wait-listed) of applicants for the upcoming school year.

APRIL – AUGUST

Teachers will continue to review any new applications for available places or contact wait-listed applicants if any new places become available in our classes (due to withdrawals). Typically, if there are withdrawals, they tend to occur at the end of May, end of June or end of August.

SEPTEMBER AND THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR

Wait-listed applicants will be contacted should a place in the class become available during the school year.

TUITION DEPOSITS AND ENROLMENT PACKAGES

All newly accepted students must confirm enrolment by paying a tuition deposit immediately upon acceptance. The deposit is equal to 10% of the current year’s tuition fees for that particular class. This deposit is applied towards the tuition for the school year and is non-refundable.

Two additional non-refundable deposits will be due June 1 and July 1. The school office will prepare a pre-authorized payment form for your family detailing the amounts and due dates of these deposits and all other remaining fees. This form is part of the package of enrolment documents prepared for each new family.

For enrolment into the school after the deposit due dates, parents will be required to pay these three fees in total upon acceptance (i.e., 30% of Tuition Fees is due if enrolling after July 1st). All deposits paid are non-refundable.

NEW FAMILY INITIATION FEE

For newly enrolled families with a child entering Grades 1 to 9, the one-time Family Initiation Fee of $1,500 is due June 1st or at the time of acceptance for enrolment after June 1st.
